Microsoft has launched a new dual-screen device called Surface Neo, which is the most surprising news released by Microsoft this time. But the device will not be available until the next holiday season, and it will be more than a year away.
The device combines two 9-inch screens to fold in, flip, reverse and browse Netflix, or extend a single application on two screens or use two applications simultaneously.
Panos Panay, Microsoft’s chief product officer, said at the event: “Neo is not only the next new Surface, but also a new product of the next category.”
It has been reported that Microsoft has been developing dual-screen devices for more than a decade, and this is indeed the case. In 2008, Microsoft launched the Courier project for dual-screen tablet devices, when the iPad was not available. At the time, the concept of the advanced Courier dual screen was amazing.
According to The Verge, Microsoft invested $23.5 million in other resources to prepare for the listing, sales and promotion of Courier. Unfortunately, Courier is not positioned to replace the computer, and it does not support the Outlook mail client. Because Microsoft relied on Exchange mail servers and Outlook clients to generate billions of dollars a year, Courier’s settings made Microsoft’s executives quite dissatisfied. In the end, Courier was banned on the eve of the listing.
The Surface Neo, which will be launched after more than a decade, is different from the 2008 Courier concept. It runs Windows 10X and a new version of Windows operating system. Each screen has a diagonal of 9 inches. The device is 5.6 mm thick on each side and weighs 655 grams. It uses the gorilla glass and Panas Panne’s “the thinnest LCD ever.”Microsoft Hardware Conference Launches Dual-Screen Surface Neo
Surface Duo phone with dual screen function
In addition to Surface Neo, Microsoft also announced the mobile version of Surface Duo. This is a brand new product with a dual screen design similar to Neo. The main reason is that the system running on this phone has been replaced by Android (Android) system.
According to the currently known information, Duo has a 360-degree rotating shaft in the middle, and the screens on both sides are 5.6 inches. When a call comes in, you can fold it back into the back of the screen to answer. Microsoft is also currently choosing Snapdragon 855 chips for Duo. Like the Surface Neo, this phone is expected to be available next Christmas.
Surface Pro 7
At the press conference, Microsoft also introduced Surface Pro 7, an upgraded USB-C tablet, which is more deeply integrated with Microsoft Office. The Surface Pro 7 starts at $749.
Surface Pro 7 offers different types of memory including 4GB, 8GB and 16GB, so it’s not surprising that it starts at a price lower than the starting price of $899 for the Surface Pro 6 (8GB, 16GB RAM only).
The new Surface Pro 7 features the 10th generation Intel Core processor, including Intel Core i3 (1.2 GHz), Intel Core i5 (1.1 GHz) and Intel Core i7 (1.3 GHz). The shape design follows the style of the previous generation.
Surface Pro X
Surface Pro X is a hybrid of laptop and tablet. Equipped with new processor, 4K video and edge to edge features. The 13-inch Surface Pro X weighs 1.68 pounds (762 grams).
Instead of Intel’s processor, the tablet runs Windows on the Arm processor. The company announced the news at its annual hardware event in New York on Wednesday. It combines a custom version of Microsoft’s Qualcomm Snapdragon processor SQ1. The goal is to provide a Windows experience that is more like a phone and always stay connected.
Microsoft said that Surface Pro X is the first and only Windows PC with an integrated AI engine.
Surface Pro X is now available for bookings starting at $999 and will ship in November.
Laptop Surface Laptop 3
In addition to tablets, Microsoft has also expanded its hardware portfolio with Surface Laptop 3. The Surface Laptop 3 is a new laptop that turns on the power when you turn it on and uses an aluminum finish, the color of the sandstone.
Pane said that the new laptop is three times more powerful than Apple’s MacBook Air. The 13-inch model starts at $999, while the 15-inch model starts at $1,199. Both will be available on October 22.
The company also introduced new Surface Earbuds. This earbud can be used with Microsoft Office products and battery life can last for a whole day.
The product will be available later this year for $249, slightly higher than Apple’s AirPods with a wireless charging box for $199.
